In the early 70s George Carlin let his hair get longer and grew a beard. He abandoned the clean cut image and suit and tie that was common in his Television appearances in the 60s on shows like Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show

Carlin had evolved his act from clean straightforward comedy ( The Hippy Dippy Weatherman) to cultural commentary. ( The seven words you can’t say on TV). This collection has a little of both

He sold out concert venues and had several successful records before he became a mainstay on Cable TV. His HBO specials were always highly rated

While I was working at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan north of Detroit as Security in the summer of 1974 George Carlin played for a single evening show. I was wearing my orange Pine Knob tshirt and windbreaker and was assigned to guard the stage by standing with arms crossed at the far right corner of the stage.

Nobody approached the stage or even got out of their seat all night.

I was nearly fired for laughing too much by the head usher Louie halfway through the show
