The Cheers TV show aired over 11 seasons. In total there were over 260 cold opens where everyone in the bar would respond to Norm's greeting - "Hey everybody" with a shouted "Norm!" He would then have a brief greeting with the bartender as he made his way to the end of the bar.
George Wendt auditioned for the role of “Beer Drinking Bar Patron” for the TV series named Cheers. He was instructed to walk into the bar, sit down and say one word: “Beer!” The role evolved into Norm Peterson after his sidekick Cliff Clavin was cast as the know it all bar patron.
