John Thompson - Georgetown Basketball
John Thompson was the Head Basketball Coach at Georgetown University from 1972 through 1999. He took a team that had won only 3 games the year before he arrived to a winning record and an NCAA Tournament appearance in his third season as Head Coach
Over 27 Seasons his teams compiled a 596-239 record with a streak of 24 post season appearances; 20 in the NCAA tournament and 4 NIT invitations
His 1984 team, led by Patrick Ewing, won the NCAA Title. This was the first Championship won by an African American Head Coach.
He was a staunch advocate for his players and worked tirelessly to make sure they were successful in life in addition to their basketball career
