Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
Louis Armstrong was a famous Jazz musician who was known for his trumpet playing. He was nicknamed "Satchmo" and "Pops". In 1967 he set down his horn and recorded "What a Wonderful World"
The song was very popular in Europe but was virutally unknown in the United States because the head of ABC records did not like the song and refused to release or promote the song. In 1968 Larry Newton was forced into releasing the song after pressure from European distributor EMI Records. The song did not sell in the United States until it was included on the soundtrack of Good Morning Vietnam in 1987, twenty years after it was recorded and 16 years after Armstrong's death.
After the song was released in digital format sales of the song took off again. By the end of the year in 2014 it had sold over 2.3 million copies online. The most recent total is over 5 million copies sold
