The 1977 Movie Slapshot introduced us to the fictional Minor League Charlestown Chiefs playing in the Federal League
In the fictional rust belt city of Charlestown, PA the impending closure of the local steel mill which will force layoffs of 10,000 workers, threatens the town's Hockey team.
The Charlestown Chiefs are struggling with a losing season, incompetent players, and increasingly hostile spectators. Paul Newman portrays player-coach Reggie Dunlop. Most of his players have no employment prospects outside hockey. As a money-saving measure, the team's penny-pinching manager, Joe McGrath, signs the young, immature and very feisty Hanson Brothers to generate interest in the team
